Exam

“Exam” is based on a found object: a seventh grade sex ed test, where the student got confused and labeled the male organs with the female names.  When I found this piece of paper I thought it was gold.  I saved it for ten years.  I finally used it  when I was medically misdiagnosed, and labeling mattered.  For me, it’s about cognitive dissonance where word and image don’t mesh.

This imagery was used in my seventh grade sex-ed class & also in my daughter’s class decades later. Though not anatomically sophisticated, the longevity of its use makes this imagery almost iconic.
