“Shape of Test” was part of my show “the meaning of things..”
Shape Test
“the meaning of things” was not my first solo show, but it was my first solo ceramic show. I was new to ceramics. “Shape Test” is about being a beginner. The imagery on the base is from a kindergarten reading readiness test I took in the 1950s and my son took in the 1980’s. In that test, if you can connect a verbal narrative with the appropriate image, you’re “ready to read.” When I made this, I was simply saying” I’m in ceramic kindergarten.”.. I’m at the beginning. I didn’t realized how completely apt or prescient this piece was— that linking narratives to vessels would be an on-going process for me.
