"E is for Ewer"

Ewers come in many shapes and sizes. This pair take inspiration from Mid-Eastern metal vessels.

The deep red color of these decorative vessels comes from a matte paint that sinks into the surface to look velvety.

Two double spouted vessels of no particular name that resulted from ewer experiments.

Vessel means container, but also boat... so: a double spouted vessel that resembles a Viking boat.

Parts of the Vessel Alphabet series were shown at NCECA Philadelphia (PA), Workhouse Arts Center (VA), Springfield Arts Assoc , (IL), UW Medical Research South Lake Union (WA), Bellevue Art Museum (WA), Pottery NW (WA), Kirkland Arts Ctr (WA), Koch Gallery (WA), and Univ of Puget Sound (WA).

Vessel Alphabet

The Vessel Alphabet came out of my interest in vessel names and the iconic shapes associated with them. I wanted to stretch those classic forms into new innovative shapes.

I began with Ewer, an odd word ( in spelling and sound) that is used with so many shapes. GingerJars with Bud Vase, then Amphora followed. Several un-named explorations of double spouts were included, culminating in a pun on vessel itself.
